Our MISSION

Student Expression Through Music

The Buena High School Music program dates back to the fall of 1961 when Buena first opened its doors for students. Since that time, the band program has been led by several distinguished Band Directors with enrollment as high as 180 musicians.

Students participating in the Buena Music Department have opportunities to perform in many high caliber ensembles including Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, String Orchestra, Indoor Drumline, Winter Guard, Marching Band and Choir.

The Buena High School Music program has a reputation for excellence that is becoming known around the world. Our groups have traveled through 10 of the United States, as well as Canada and Mexico. In 2002, Buena represented the United States at the XIV International Festival of Festive Music in Castellón, Spain. Buena is the first high school in the world to be so honored. For April, 2005, Buena was invited to represent the US at the International Festival of Folk Music in Rome, Italy.

Buena High School is located in the city of Ventura on California's Gold Coast.  We are a 4 year comprehensive high school with a little over 1900 students in daily attendance.

Our students are also active in extra-curricular music opportunities including, but not limited to, the New West Symphony, Ventura County Honors Band, Ventura County Youth Symphony, CMEA Honors Band, Santa Barbara Youth Symphony, the Ventura College Master Chorale, Drum Corps International, and many others.
